
Wall shelf, which is placed in premises of the Bosnian Institute in Sarajevo is an example of superior art of Ottoman's craftmen and as such deserves a place as an object of special importance for Bosnia's tradition, culture and art.The fact that this exhibit had belonged to mother of Safvet-beg Basagic who was one of the greatest poets ever from Bosnia and Hercegovina, gives to this shelf an even greater value.
Besides factual significance of this shelf its uniquely decorated with beautiful ornaments, shimmering pearl and carvings. Although it was used to hold decorative objects and those of greater value it was always adorning the walls itself, highlighting the art of carving.Wood carving is the art of unsurpassed wood shaping and in this area had been iniciated at the time of the Ottoman Empire. So, there is a large number of authentic examples of skills of our craftman.Of course a large number of carved furniture originate from Istanbul just like this shelf which can be seen in Bosnian Institue. Although the art of carved furniture has improved the technique itself hasn't changed much. Usually walnut wood or some other friut wood was used for making these kind of furniture.
Carving furnishing reflects the tradition, beauty, artistry and significance of Bosnians and theirs country so its not strange that this furniture has been adorning Bosnian houses for almost two centuries.
