Bosnian tradition is largely reflected by it's national wear whose making is given a great care, a lot of time and love, which created unique examples of the art of making clothing and shoes. What we call our traditional wear today, has its roots in the fifteenth century when the Ottomans conquered Bosnia and brought their culture to our region.

Besides the vest, blouse, buckles, bodice, dimije and so on, clogs (nanule) make an indispensable part of traditional dressing. The word 'nanule' comes from Arabic and means a kind of openwooden shoes, which consist of a nice piece of wood treated with two heels and a strap that is pulled up on toes. Other than being used around the home, they are an indispensable footwear in hammam (bathroom). For those purposes, they were made with higher heels in order to protect the feet from the floor in the hot baths. They were also often decorated with pearls, silver, straw, bells and other accessories made of precious metals and stones. In particular, however, the ones with bells were special because they had a big impact.

Namely, the bey families at that time lived in houses with a shared male and female rooms. To attract bey's attention and show him that he is not fulfilling his romantic duties regularly, women would carry clogs with bells and walk in the yard, producing a gentle sound of bells.
