Gas Lantern

This gas lantern is an exhibit gifted to the Historical museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in January 2003. for the purpose of the war items exhibition. The lantern is used in the General hospital, it is possible to refill it and it can still be used. It is made out of metal and plastics, and it has a gas storage and a controller which is used to reduce or increase the amount of flame.
In the summer of 1992. the electrical power in Sarajevo was cut off for the first time. From that moment on, the citizens of Sarajevo were forced to invent the new ways of providing some basic life requirements, including the light. Although this kind of lantern is not a proper way to lighten a public institution, in conditions that were present in Sarajevo during the war, it was a real fortune and its function was extremely important in providing the most significant human role - saving people's lives.
