Vizier's Mace

The Ottoman Empire ruled from 1299 to 1923.
At the height of its power, in 1863, the Empire spanned southeastern Europe, western Asia and North Africa.

Sultan was the absolute ruler of the Empire. The most significant sultans in the history of the Empire were Mehmed II, Selim I and Suleiman the Magnificent.

The Grand Vizier was the greatest minister of the Sultan, and the second man in the Empire. His power was limited only by the Sultan himself.

The Ottoman Empire conquered Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1463. and the reign lasted until 1878. The arrival of the Osmans in Bosnia and Herzegovina had enormous religious, linguistic, cultural, political and military consequences.

In the late 17th century, Travnik became the centre of the Ottoman province in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the residence of bosnian viziers.

Vizier's mace was a symbol of power. This symbol of vizier's authority was passed from generation to generation.
