Candlestick

The earliest traces of candlesticks date from third century B.C. They are discovered in China, when Qin dinasty was on the throne. In the beginning, they were uset explicitly for interior lightings, in religious rituals and in contemporary era for interior decoration. From old ages, people also used candlesticks, which made beauty of candle light even more beautiful. Beside its decorative purpuse, they make using candles easier. They can be made for one or more candles and are made from different materials like wood, ceramics and various metals.

One of the medal candles is situated in Museum of Sarajevo. Displayed artifact dates from Western Europe, but exact origin is not known. It was uset in church rituals in 18th and 19th century. Candlestick in christianity dates from first centuries A.D., when christians had meetings at night or in catacombs, so its purpose is more symbolic, although it has practical usage. The Gospel of Luke (11:33) says: “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.“

Although there are many ways we can enlight rooms today, candles and candlesticks are still used because of that special ambient they create, and which cannot be replaced with modern technologies. It seems the situation will stay the same in the future.
