Sugar pot

Šećerluk- a traditional Bosnian sugar pot dating from the Osman empire. It symbolises wealth of it's owner. Coffee is traditionally drunk with friends and neighbors in Bosnia. Although some drink sugar free coffee, but sugar is usually brought out with coffee. Wealthier families had sugar pots hand made with numerous decorations (engravings). Sugar pots were made of gold, silver or copper which was cotted by a thin layer of gold.
The object shown in this picture is 22 cm in diameter, and the base is 7.5 cm high. It is made of copper and cotted in gold. The symbols of the city of Sarajevo (the mosque of Gazi Husrev-beg), flowers and unknown symbols are graved in the sides of this object. The person who had this object made, and the craftsman who made it are not known, but it dates from the end of the 16th or the beginning of the 17th century.
