The knife

This knife comes from central Bosnia, from the time when it was one of the most westerly province of the Ottoman Empire.  The army was present from the beginning, the weapon was an important segment of life. The knife was  made using hand-steel.  At that time steel factories were in Sarajevo, Fojnica, Vares, Kresevo and Foca.

The knife was brought to the famous Sarajevo craftsman who has decorated with a lot of attention.  The sheath was decorated with details of gold and silver with religious motives (verses from Holy book of Qur’an ) and were often printed  the initials of the owner.

The knife length was about 25 to 30 cm, while the slightly curved top.  It was used for close fight and was a part of male dress. Because of its importance the knife is still used in some performances.
