Little sehara

For a long time, sehara has represented an important piece of furniture in many bosnian houses. Made of wood or metal, decorated mostly with fretwork, sehara was special ornament in every home that had it. It was magic box of woman’s intimacy, place for all the things that made her happy and reminded her of what she is. In some way, whole life of one woman was there, carefully arranged.

Although sehara means much more than one simple sentence can describe, it still has to be defined. The simplest definition would be: wooden box for putting small objects

This sehara was made at the beginning of the 20th century. It was made of wood and decorated with fretwork. Its special meaning is in the fact that it is hand-made.

Storage of different sweets, old photos, youth memories and other sentimentalities, grandmother’s sehara is still unforgettable picture from childhoods of many Bosnians.
