Kubura

The rule of the Ottomans in Bosnia was, among others, marked by numerous conflicts and wars. Fundamental for their success was a good weapon. Among firearms from Europe, the Ottomans have accepted the weapon system based on flint, to which belongs the kubura gun.

The name kubura gun comes from the Turksh word “kubur” and it marks a small gun with a round apple on the butt. It belongs to the period of transition from the 18th in 19th century.
It has the butt made of nutwood, smooth tube and an apple made of brass. It is decorated with various motifs, which are a reflection of the time in which they emerged and the culture from which they originated.
Kubura gun is a forerunner of a gun. When you pull the trigger, the flint, set in hammer, creates sparks when strikes against steel. This ignites the powder which burns through to the charge behind the ball.

Kubura gun was worn in the belt or in leather case called kuburluk. It was usually, due to short range of shots, used in addition to a cold weapon, but it had an advantage in  ease of transport and concealment.
