Dervish needle

Dervish needle is an object which Dervish, in ecstasy during the zikr, uses to pierce cheek, place beneath clavicle or the loin. Needles were produced from metal. Head of the needle is decorated with heavy small balls and it was made with ‘’filigran’’ technique.

Needle made like this easy penetrates the skin, but still, because there is no bleeding or other consequences   it is explained   by the power   that gives him belief in Allah.

Since the fifties of last century, these rituals are no longer practiced .  This object comes from 19th century and it is in possession of Sarajevo City’s  Museum.
